Local Attorney Earns Distinction as a Certified Elder Law Attorney

The Springfield-based regional law firm of Bacon Wilson, P.C. is pleased to announce that Hyman G. Darling recently completed the training to earn his certification from The National Elder Law Foundation as a Certified Elder Law Attorney. This is the only certification program in the country that is approved by the American Bar Association. As a prerequisite to certification attorneys must:
  • Provide evidence of substantial involvement in the specialty area.
  • Provide references from lawyers and judges.
  • Pass a written examination covering the substantive and procedural law in the specialty area.
  • Demonstrate completion of at least 36 hours of continuing legal education courses in the specialty area in the three-year period preceding the lawyer’s application for certification.
  • Be admitted to practice in one or more states and be a members in good standing; and
  • Be re-certified at least every five years and be subject to revocation or certification if they fail to meet program requirements.

Attorney Darling is chairman of Bacon Wilson’s Estate Planning and Elder Law Departments, and he is recognized as the area’s preeminent estate planner. His areas of expertise include all areas of estate planning, probate and elder law. Darling is a past president of the Hampden County Bar Association, and he teaches law at Bay Path College and is an adjunct professor at Western New England College School of Law – LLM program, teaching Elder Law. He is a frequent lecturer on various estate planning and elder law topics at both the local and national levels. Darling lives in Longmeadow.
